Saleh receives letter from US Secretary of State

SANA’A, Feb.03 (Saba) – President Ali Abdullah Saleh met on Thursday with by the U.S. ambassador to Yemen Gerald Feierstein, who handed over a letter to him from the U.S. Secretary of State Hilary Clinton. In her letter, Clinton noted to the positive initiative announced by Saleh on Wednesday before the joint meeting of the Parliament and the Shura councils. She pointed out that it is an important step, which would have deep impact on the future of Yemen and its people, confirming that the U.S. supports this reformative step and Saleh’s call for dialogue. Furthermore, Clinton pointed to the results of her recent visit to Sana’a and her talks with officials in Yemen, confirming her country’s keenness to strengthen relations with Yemen at various levels. She affirmed the U.S. support to Yemen in the fields of development and democracy and counter-terrorism, praising Yemen’s efforts in this area. Clinton’s letter also dealt with bilateral relations and cooperation between the two friendly countries. HA/BA
