Saleh chairs meeting of committee to prepare for Yemen Friends’ meeting
SANA’A, Sep.15 (Saba)- President Ali Abdullah Saleh chaired on Wednesday a meeting of the Supreme Committee to prepare for the ministerial meeting of Friends of Yemen to be held in New Work this month. The committee discussed the latest developments relating to the Group of Friends of Yemen and preparations for the Group’s ministerial meeting to be held on September 24, and reviewed achievements made by Yemen since the London meeting held in last January. Also the committee touched on reports of the two work teams of the Group ; the economy and governance team and the team of justice and the rule of law, in addition to the observations of the June meeting and the composition of the delegation participating in the meeting. It is scheduled that the New York meeting of Yemen Friends would discuss supporting Yemen economy and development and review new mechanisms in the longer term to meet the needs of development in Yemen in line with its priorities and the progress in reforms, including the economic reforms and governance, according to the IMF program. It also aims at securing greater support from donors and implementing the international and regional commitments to support development efforts in Yemen. The New York meeting will also evaluate what has been achieved by the Group’s teams since the London Meeting as well as setting a date for the Riyadh meeting, which will review the development programs in Yemen, in addition to ways to support the reform program and the fight against extremism and terrorism. The attendants expressed Yemen’s thanks and appreciation to brotherly and friendly countries participating in the Group for their support to development process in Yemen and to the governments of Saudi Arabia and the United Kingdom for sponsoring the ministerial meeting of the Group in New York.
