President suggests RY100 mln for scientific research

SANA’A, (Saba)- President Ali Abdullah Saleh directed on Monday the government to approve RY100 million for scientific research at the Yemeni universities and seek support from donor countries, in addition to studying potentialities of establishing a university hospital at Sana’a University and finalizing special procedures of lands assigned for teaching staff at the Sana’a University. In his speech to the graduation ceremony of 2005-2006 9662 graduates of Sana’a University, he congratulated graduates, thanking the administration of the university, colleges’ deans and professors for their efforts for qualifying these graduates. He honored excellent students who came first of their batches of the various colleges. Saleh expressed his happiness in attending this ceremony saying that: “I am happy to attend the graduation ceremony of 2005-2006 batch of Sana’a University’s colleges. I also attended graduation ceremonies of different universities in different governorates of the country. ” He added that he is also happy to meet the university professors, colleges deans and students to ” speak thorough them to all sons of the homeland.” “First of all, we urge the Ministry of Education to give importance to basic education for it is the cornerstone of higher education and double efforts in illiteracy eradication,” he said. The president directed ministry of higher education and the government to encourage scientific research in Yemeni universities. He also urged the government to distribute agricultural and housing lands to youths and implement strategic projects for absorbing unemployment. MS/AM SABA
