President Saleh to send letter to Oman Sultan

SANA’A, June 14 (Saba)- Informed sources said the Public Health and Population Minister Abdul-Karim Rase would head on Friday for Oman carrying a letter from President Ali Abdullah Saleh to Oman’s Sultan Qaboos bin Saeed, the military-run September weekly reported Thursday. The source said that the letter deals with mutual brotherly relations between Yemen and Oman and Yemen’s assistance to Oman to absorb damages caused by Guno cyclone last week. In the beginning of June, more than 30 people have been killed by Cyclone Gonu in Oman, including members of police rescue squads, in the fiercest storm to hit the region in decades. Omani National Economy Minister Ahmad bin Abdul-Nabi Macki said in a press conference that the infrastructure of Oman would not be affected and that restoration of roads and utilities would be given priority in the current Five Year Plan (2006-10) projects. “The cyclone will not at all affect the Omani economy’s growth and performance of the current Five Year Plan,” said Macki.
