President Saleh says extravagant weddings ferment hatred

SANA’A, Sept. 12 (Saba) – President Ali Abdullah Saleh said on Saturday that the extravagant trimmings of weddings spurs the hatred of the have-nots against the haves. In a speech he delivered during his visit to the Shura Council, President Ali Abdullah Saleh called the overspending on wedding feasts, an uncivilized act. “Statesmen have to set a pattern in avoiding showoff during weddings,” he said. “Personally, for the past 14 years, I have tried to make modest feasts in the wedding of my son and other relatives,” he added, saying that he wanted others to follow suit. Recalling his relevant address in Ibb, President Saleh said he didn’t target a certain individual when he attacked those who spend lavishly on weddings. He suggested that “tea party, for example” replaces the lavish trimmings and Qat sessions. AA/KM
