President Saleh receives letter from US president

SANA’A, June 12 (Saba)- President Ali Abdullah Saleh received Thursday a letter from US President George W. Bush deals with the bilateral relations and joint cooperation in field of fighting terrorism. In the letter, which was handed over to President Saleh during his meeting with US Assistant Attorney General for National Security, Kenneth L. Wainstein, Bush affirmed his country’s keenness to enhance its relations and joint cooperation with Yemen. Bush pointed out that the Yemeni- American relations are currently witnessing an important stage leading to achieve the common interests of both countries, confirming the US’s support for the development and democratic progress in Yemen. During the meeting, President Saleh discussed with the American official the aspects of enhancing the partnership between the two countries in various fields. Addition to reviewing the latest developments in Somali and the Horn of Africa, they also discussed the conditions of the Yemeni detainees in the US-run Guantanamo detention and the case of Mohammed al-Muayyad and Mohammed Zayed. President Saleh renewed Yemen’s request to the US to extradite al-Muayyad and Zayed as well as Yemeni detainees in the Guantanamo detention. Wainstein affirmed the importance of the joint partnership and cooperation between the two countries topped by the cooperation in field of fighting terrorism and keeping the stability in the region. For his part, President Saleh affirmed Yemen’s adherence to enhance and improve its partnership and cooperation with the US aiming to serve the common interests of both peoples. TD/YA Saba
