President Saleh meets UN official

SANA’A, May 02 (Saba) – President Ali Abdullah Saleh met here on Sunday with Amat Al-Alim Al-Soswa, Assistant Administrator of United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Director of Regional Bureau for Arab States. In the meeting, the two sides discussed areas of cooperation between Yemen and the UNDP, in addition to the role of the UN to assist Yemen in the field of development and the reconstruction efforts. Al-Soswa briefed President Saleh on the results of her visit to the camps of displaced people in al-Mazraq and al-Malahedh areas, and her visit to Hadramout province to know about the reconstruction efforts in the flood-affected areas. The UNDP’s official praised Yemen’s efforts to provide care for the displaced due to the war in Saada province and Harf Sofian district, as well as the exerted efforts to address the flood effects in Hadramout and Mahrah province as well as presenting compensation for those affected. For his part, President Saleh affirmed the humanitarian role that should be played by the UN in the care for the displaced people and urged donors to provide assistance in this area. BA Saba
