President Saleh meets German archeological team
SANA’A, Feb. 01 (Saba)- President Ali Abdullah Saleh met here on Wednesday Dr. Iris Gerlach, Director of German Institute for Antiquities, the headof German team to excavate antiquities in Marib governorate Dr. Gerlach briefed president Saleh on a final report on the outcomes of the expedition’s works and discoveries implemented in Marib.
She said that there are new discoveries dated back to the historicalage of Marib Dam.
She praised cooperation of the citizens of Marib governorate in excavation works that led to the discovery of some historical antiquities in the region.
The Chairman of General Organization for Antiquities and Museum GOAM Abdullah Ba-Wazir indicated to the new archeological discovers of the French archeologists in al-Sodah area in al-Jawf governorate.
President Saleh gave order to GOAM and local authority in Marib to start works of excavation on the old city of Marib.
He affirmed the importance of protecting these new discoveries, saying that they are a national wealth for the Yemeni people.
He praised the cooperation offered by Marib citizens for the archeological team who come to excavate the antiquities in Yemen.
