President Saleh inspects public services in Lahj

LAHJ, Feb 1, (Saba) – President Ali Abdullah Saleh has discussed with Lahj local councilors, judges and senior other government officials on the function of public office, civil and judicial, mainly the role of local councils in providing basic services. During his visit to the province of Lahj on Tuesday, Saleh was also briefed on the progresses made in various spheres of life there. Delivering a keynote speech, the President gave directives for agencies concerned to design general infrastructure services for new Hotah city, to be a city center of the province. He also gave directives for putting designs of a tourist accommodation complex and other necessary tourist facilities. Saleh also stressed the role of planning and monitoring the projects, in cooperation with executive offices. He pointed to the importance of broadening the clout of local councils as part of the decentralization trend.The President emphasized on the role played by local councils in generation of revenues and importance of developing the Law of Local Authority to make it further susceptible to the generation of revenues. He urged courts to avoid prolonged suit cases in order to prevent worsening of disputes. “Local councils must also assume their role in ending revenges and disputes,” he admonished. In addition to Yrs 75 million donated by Yemeni Lahj expatriates outside the country, the President ordered the allocation of Yrs 2 billion for service projects to be implemented in the province.
