President Saleh holds talks with German chancellor in Berlin
BERLIN, Nov 23 (Saba)- President Ali Abdullah Saleh held talks Tuesday with German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder on the latest developments on the regional and international arenas, especially in regards to Palestine and Iraq as well as the international battle against terrorism. The German Chancellor highlighted President Saleh’s wise contribution to realizing stability in the Mideast region, and praised the developments Yemen is achieving in spheres of economy and democracy. He expressed his desire to visit Yemen next year as part of a tour in the region, confirming support of Germany for Yemen in different fields. President Saleh highlighted level of the relations between Yemen and Germany, and thanked the German assistance to development in Yemen. “We appreciate so much the German stance that supports the development and democracy in Yemen,’ he said. He confirmed the interest of Yemen to extend horizons of the bilateral relations and joint partnership with Germany and praised the stance of Germany on the issues of the region. He also welcomed the expected visit of the German Chancellor Gerhard to Yemen, saying Germany plays a great role in pushing for peace in the region and realizing stability in Iraq. Regarding conditions in the region, President Saleh hoped that US President George W. Bush would achieve his pledges to set up an independent Palestinian state saying the initiative of President Bush met the acclaim and welcome of the region. He said that a comprehensive peace in the region would enhance international efforts in fighting terror, and called for summoning an international action to reduce poverty in the world. He made it clear that the political and democratic reforms would face many challenges if they don’t support in improving development and tackling the problem of poverty.
