President Saleh, German Interior Minister hold talks
BERLIN, Nov. 23 (Saba)- President Ali Abdullah Saleh received on Tuesday the German Minister of the Interior Otto Schily and discussed with him a variety of issues. Talks focused on the friendly ties between Yemen and Germany, the bilateral cooperation in field of fighting terrorism and the issues of Iraq and Palestine. President Saleh spoke highly of the bilateral ties and cited the German support for the process of development in Yemen. He asserted the importance of setting up a European fund for alleviating poverty in developing countries. “Poverty is a good ground for breeding terror and extremism,” President Saleh said. The German minister welcomed the visit of the President to Germany, saying that Germany was committed to cooperation with Yemen for the bilateral advantage of the two peoples. He highlighted Yemen’s encounter-terrorism drive, calling Yemenis key partner to Germany. He said that a bilateral security agreement would be inked soon. AH/AA SABA
