President Saleh, Dimitroff review NDI activities in Yemen
SANA’A, Jan. 07 (Saba) – President Ali Abdullah Saleh held talks here on Monday with director of the Sana’a-based National Democratic Institute (NDI) Peter Dimitroff over the NDI’s activities and its role in supporting the democratic development programs in Yemen. Dimitroff hailed the current democratic political mobility in Yemen, particularly the constitutional amendments aiming at improving the democratic process, shifting to the system of the local ruling and at widening the women’s participation in the public and political life. “The democratic process in Yemen is a pioneer model in the region and among the developing democratic states”, the NDI’s director said, affirming that the institute supports the country’s trends in this field. President Saleh, for his part, highlighted the role of the NDI in domains of training and sustaining the democratic and political development programs, confirming that the pluralist democracy in Yemen is “a firm national choice”. He also affirmed that the ruling local system would reinforce the people’s participation in the democratic and development fields. TD/AF Saleh
