President Saleh congratulates Canadian, Somali leaders

SANA’A, June 30 (Saba)- President Ali Abdullah Saleh sent on Saturday a cable of congratulations to Canada’s Governor General Michaelle Jean on the occasion of Canada Day. Canada celebrates the events occurred on July 1, 1867, when the British North America Act created the Canadian federal government. President Saleh also sent a congratulations cable to Somali President Abdullahi Yusuf Ahmed on the occasion of the National Day. Somali National Week takes place the last week of June, and commemorates the anniversary of the independence of the three former Somali colonies and the creation of the independent state of Somalia from the British and Italian colonies, on 01 July 1960.
