President Saleh chairs meeting with new governors, government

SANA’A, May 21 (Saba) – President Ali Abdullah Saleh directed government to set up complete strategy to local authorities and granting them funds allocations for giving them greater authorizations. “The supreme national interest has required new portfolios to be added to the cabinet’s ones and in the same time we congratulate those who have got the confidence of new portfolios in government’s cabinet,” said the President in a joint meeting he chaired to cabinet and new governors after recent government’s reshuffle. He expressed hope that the government would work with local authority as one team and carry on shoulder the whole responsibility without differences for authorizations. He congratulated the new ministers for getting confidence of political leadership and congratulated also new elected governors for getting votes of electing authorities. “This is the first meeting includes cabinet and heads of administrative units (governors),” he said, adding ” in this occasion we hail the unpreceded daring step in the region representing in electing Sana’a’s mayor and governorates’ governors.” He said that electing governors would limit centralization and would give greater authority to governors, adding that this process would also enhance conducting more constitutional amendments. He called on ministers and governors to” perform their duties according the law and constitution “, directing the government, namely the prime minister and his deputies to follow up this matter and to give authorization to new governors. He directed finance ministry to discuss with government funds allocations to local authority and provide these funds instantly, directing the government to set up new budget for the next year. “We argue the government to let local authority to carry on their shoulder responsibility of security, stability, development and services in the governorates,” he said, warning the new officials to abide by the law away of arbitration, mediation, telephone calls and traditions and directed them to “apply the force of the law and the system.” He addressed governors saying:” You the governors, your duty is managing, developing and security, do not interfere in affaires of judicial authority. You are in wider-authorization local governance… you have to carry your responsibilities and work on combating corruption and corrupt persons in all country’s offices”. “I am sure, if you work honestly, peace and stability would be realized in the governorates. More we enhance security and stability in the governorate, more we will be helped on constructing many strategic, development and service projects,” he added. MA/MA Saba
