President Saleh chairs meeting on Zakat

SANA’A, Sep 14 (Saba) – President Ali Abdullah Saleh, along with prime minister Bajammal, has chaired a meeting with ministers, religious scholars and officials of bodies concerned. The meeting discussed Zakat duty and methods to develop its collection. The meeting approved a higher council and sub-councils of custodians to be formed in all governorates and districts. These councils would comprise religious scholars, businessmen, tradesmen, governmental officials well-known for honesty and efficiency. The tasks of these councils would be to conduct studies, supervise the collection of Zakat revenues, control and direct their uses. The meeting emphasized the necessity for religious scholars and guides to preach the public and raise Islamic enlightenment as to the importance of paying Zaka, being one of the Islam five pillars. The meeting also decided that Holy Qur’an schools might be subordinated to one authority, so that to assure their development and efficient performance, and to achieve their goals. KN/NM SABA
