President receives UNDP administrator
SANA’A,(Saba)- President Ali Abdullah Saleh received on Wednesday UNDP administrator Mark Brown who is currently visiting Yemen. In the meeting, they discussed aspects of mutual cooperation between Yemen and UNDP, and efforts of Yemen in financial and economic reforms to reduce poverty as well as Yemen’s experience in local authority. President Saleh appreciated UNDP’s support for Yemen in different fields of development, wishing to work with UNDP to extend the range of supporting the development process in Yemen. He asked Brown to convey his regards to the UN secretary-general Kofi Annan. Brown highlighted the level of cooperation between Yemen and UNDP. He pointed out to achievements of Yemen in field of economy and democracy, saying that UNDP would expand its assistances program in Yemen. He confirmed that UNDP would help Yemen promote decentralization and fulfill the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), in addition to its support for health and education. The UNDP official is currently visiting Yemen to get acquaintance with the projects of UNDP in Yemen and to discuss with the Yemeni officials means of enhancing cooperation with Yemen. AH/NS SABA
