President receives Say’oun religious scholars

SAY’OUN, April 12 (Saba)- President Ali Abdullah Saleh received in Say’oun on Monday religious scholars, preachers and masjid imams who welcomed this meeting, expressing thanks and appreciation for the President’s interest to hold this meeting with them. In his speech, President Saleh expressed his pleasure for having this meeting with a constellation of Islamic scholars and preachers. He talked about corruption and the exerted efforts of the government for the sake of fighting this weird phenomenon in the Yemeni society affecting the political, commercial, administrative and social aspects of life. Saleh urged the religious scholars and preachers, for their part, to work beside the government to fight this phenomenon through raising awareness of the society against wrong practices. He criticized those who blame the Yemeni unity for any corruption committed by someone in some governmental institution, wondering what is the link between this act of corruption and the unity and emphasized that we should not be aggressive to the Yemeni unity as it has no connection to such illegal act. Saleh stressed the role of the local authorities in practicing their jurisdictions and monitoring, evaluating and correcting the situation in the governorate, noting that they have to question their leadership about the financial and administrative faults. The President noted the transformed powers from the Prime Minister to the governor of Hadramout with respect to Construction Fund of Hadramout, asking the governor to follow up this matter for a better implementation of development projects. He indicated that such a positive move of transforming powers and giving jurisdiction will be applied also to other governorates in the future. AMAM
