President receives EU Chief Observer for forthcoming elections

SANA’A, Aug. 16 (Saba)- President Ali Abdullah Saleh received here on Wednesday Chief Observer of European Union Elections Observation Mission to 2006 Yemen presidential and local elections Emma Nicholson. In the meeting, they discussed issues associated with preparations for the September’s local and presidential elections. The UN spectator said that the EU interests to support coming elections in Yemen in order to improve the democratic experience. She highlighted women participation in the elections as voter and candidate. President Saleh said that the coming elections would be held in safe and stable atmosphere to ensure fair and free elections. He welcomed the participation of the European mission and other international and non-governmental organizations delegations for monitoring the coming elections. He said that the government pays attention to participation of women in the political life. AH/TN SABA
