President inspects archeology of Dhamar

DHAMAR, Dec 21(Saba)- President Ali Abdullah Saleh paid a visit to Dhamar on Tuesday where he inspected the wide variety of archeological sites there and instructed more explorations and promotion of public awareness on archaeology in the province. In the company of Dhamar Governor Abdul-Wahab al-Durrah, the Secretary General of the Local Council Najib Abdul-Wahid and senior other local government officials, President Saleh visited al-Hada county and the regions of Banyoon, Thawban, Bardoon, Jabal al-Ziyadi and al-Meethal. Touring the museum of Banyoon, he inspected artifacts dating back to the Sabaean Kingdom three centuries BC and ruled by Bilqis. President Saleh instructed the citizens to cater for the “treasures bequeathed to us by the earlier generations” and called on the Ministry of Tourism and Culture to do its utmost in ensuring that artifacts are protected. Afterwards, President Saleh visited one of the ancient tunnels in the region that dates back to hundreds of years in the past and viewed the scriptures of almosnad style. AA/NS SABA
