President highlights Yemeni-German relations

SANA’A, Feb 15 (Saba) – President Ali Abdullah Saleh appreciated on Sunday the German support to Yemen in fields of development and democracy as well as fighting terror. During a meeting with the speaker of German parliament Wolfgang Thierse, President Saleh underlined the strength of the Yemeni-German relations, pointing out to importance of bolstering them to serve common interests of the two nations. The meeting focused on aspects of mutual co-operation between the two countries at all levels. President Saleh confirmed interest of Yemen to enhance relations, welcoming German investments in Yemen. For his part, the German official praised Yemeni-German relations on the levels of development process, democracy and fighting terror, underling German interest in developing relations with Yemen. He said Yemen is a friendly country, and exchanging visits between the two nations reflects depth of relations. Meanwhile, A parliamentary session of talks was held here Sunday between Parliament Speaker Sheikh Abdullah Bin Hussein al-Ahmar and his German counterpart on the bilateral relations. Sheikh al-Ahmar warmly welcomed the German guests to Yemen and spoke highly of the bilateral cooperation especially between the Yemeni Parliament and the German Bundestag. They also discussed strengthening Yemeni-German Parliamentary Friendship Association in the manner that serves the bilateral relations. al-Ahmar highlighted the role which Germany can play in the European Union and the UN Security Council in alleviating the suffering of the Palestinians and the creation of an independent Palestine with Jerusalem as its capital. Also on Sunday, the German official held talks with Chairman of the Shura Council Abdul-Aziz Abdul-Ghani. In the meeting, Abdul-Ghani welcomed the German official and his accompanying delegation, saying that the visit will contribute in enhancing Yemeni-German relations. He appreciated the German aid offered to support services projects and democracy in Yemen. The visiting German official expressed happiness over developing Yemeni-German relations and cooperation between the two countries. Separately, Prime Minister Abdul-Qader Ba-Jammal met Thierse and discussed with him bilateral cooperation in developmental and economic areas, their future dimensions, and how to promote them.
