President chairs meeting of GPC’s General Committee
SANA’A, Jan.21 (Saba) – President Ali Abdullah Saleh, President of the General People’s Congress (GPC), the ruling party, chaired here on Thursday a meeting of the general committee of the GPC, with presence of a number of the Standing Committee members. The general committee reviewed a number of issues and developments at the national arena and of the GPC’s position towards them, as well as the issues that concern the country, topped by the preparations for the London meeting on Yemen to be held next Wednesday with participation of 21 countries. Furthermore, it discussed reports on Yemen speech and papers to be presented in the London meeting and relating to counterterrorism and the economic and security challenges, so as to ensure coming out of the meeting with the desired results and the regional and international support for Yemen, and its security, stability and unity as well as to face those challenges without interference in the country internal affairs within the coordination and cooperation with our brothers and friends. The attendants noted to the launching of Yemen Friends Initiative during the London meeting that will open a wide field for presenting support to Yemen to strengthen its economic and security capacities to combat terrorism. Moreover, they discussed several reports relating to the exerted efforts to succeed the national dialog in light of the president’s call for all political forces and civil society organizations, which aims to address all issues of the country under the constitution roof. They affirmed the GPC’s keenness on the participation of all in the dialog process, as required by the national interest. The general committee hailed the pre-emptive operations carried out by the security forces against the hideouts of al-Qaeda militants in many areas, which prevented those terrorist elements from implementing their terrorist attacks targeting the homeland security and citizens. In this respect, the committee stressed the importance of continuation of the security services’ efforts in this area to hunt down terrorists and outlaw element, so as to maintain the security and stability and public order in the country.
