President attends meeting for Yemeni-Chinese businessmen

BEIJING, April 7 (Saba) – President Ali Abdullah Saleh attended on Friday a symposium for the Yemeni-Chinese businessmen.

The symposium was organized by the national council for the international trade development attended by representatives of the big Chinese companies.

The goal of the symposium was to create investment chances and enhance trade exchanging between two countries. In the symposium, president Saleh highlighted the Yemeni-Chinese relations at different levels.

He welcomed Chinese investments in Yemen in different fields, especially in industrial zones in Aden Free Zone, pointing out to the importance of Aden seaport as a key international trade center in the region.

He confirmed that the government would offer all facilities for Chinese investments, indicating to the great trade achievements in China, “The Yemeni markets are full with Chinese products, he said.

He added that the Chinese president expressed readiness to receive any comments on quality of the Chinese products.

For his part, the deputy chairman of the Chinese council for the development of products delivered a speech in which he said that there was a joint desire to develop trade ties between the two countries to serve common
interests of both peoples.

He pointed out that there was a good cooperation between the two countries in trade field, saying that the visit of the president Saleh would open new horizons of the cooperation between the two friendly countries.

Mohammed Abduh Saeed, chairman of the Yemen General Union for Commercial and Industrial Chambers said that the visit of the president confirmed serious encouragement for private sector to play vital role in the economic
development in the two countries.

He said that volume of the Yemeni exports to Chain reached 1.2 billion dollar and the imports of Yemen from China reached 255 million dollar in 2004.

“China is among ten key commercial partners for Yemen during the period from 2000 to 2004, he said.

He expressed hope that the trade relations between the two countries changed to be investmental relations between Yemeni and Chinese investors, saying that China would not find better investmental environment like that in Yemen.

He called Chinese investors to visit Yemen to see chances of the investments.
At the end of the meeting, a memorandum of understating was signed on participating in various projects in Yemen such as Hodeidah dock, extension of Mocha seaport, building oil strategic tanks and developing Bajal Cement
Factory.
