Consequences of 1994 war overcome, says president
SANA’A, May 21(Saba)- President Ali Abdullah Saleh said consequences of the 1994 war in all fields were overcome, adding that most of those who were abroad returned home to tackle their status and properties and provide them with jobs according to their qualifications. Addressing people on the 14th anniversary of National Day, President Saleh said “the homeland is big enough for everyone. We are confident that all honest citizens would be responsible for the achievement of the homeland’s interests and prosperity.” In his speech, he pointed out to the achievements in field of construction water dams and reservoir as well as modern roads network that connected the different parts of the country and facilitated the implementation of service projects in all areas. About 1250 water projects were implemented while over 600 others are under construction, he said. Regarding sector of education, president Saleh indicated to accomplishments, saying that he had directed the government to give priority to the expansion of technical and vocational education and community colleges in order to serve development. He added that the government should also set up regulations necessary for affective supervision of the national and private education in all stages and specialties. He also called that the government to continue economic, financial and administrative reforms in a parallel line with efforts to combat and uproot corruption. ” The government should wage a severe war on corrupters wherever they are. No single opportunity should be left for corruption and corrupters. We stress on the necessity of accelerating the approval of the international treaty to combat corruption,” he said. He called on the government to focus its efforts also on improving living standards of the citizens. He made it clear that “Our concern today is development and to bolster the national economy. Therefore, during celebrations of this occasion, inauguration and laying down foundation stones for 2237 projects would take place at the cost of around 215 billion rial.” AH/KM SABA
