Al-Qirbi to carry Saleh letter for Gulf leaders
SANA’A, Dec. 10 (Saba) – Foreign minister Abu Bakr al-Qirbi is to fly to Kuwait on Saturday, on a visit that will coincide with the 30th summit of the Supreme Council of GCC leaders, the September 26 website reported on Thursday. He will carry letter from President Ali Abdullah Saleh to Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmed Al Jaber Al Sabah, President of Kuwiat, who will chair the summit, and other leaders of the Gulf Cooperation States. The letter is said to deal with the true situation in Yemen. The website citing al-Qirbi reported that he will brief the Arabian Gulf states on the real situation in Yemen, negatively pictured by the media, and highlight the government’s efforts to address problems through dialog and boost the national economy. Yemen is now a topic of every GCC summit, in a sign of continuous development of the bilateral relationship between it and the 6 GCC states. The summit will take place on 14-15 December, with the Secretary General of the GCC Abdul Rahman al-Attiyah saying it would be ‘landmark’. He also noted that besides discussing the agenda topics, the summit will address the situation in Yemen politically and GCC-funded developmental programs under the light of the 2006 London Donor Conference. We will assure Yemen about our support to its unity and stability and our commitment to continue to support development in the country, he added. Topics on the agenda include aspects of cooperation between the GCC member states, particularly in areas such as energy, industry and trade, communication, transport, electricity, water, agriculture, planning and development and patent. The summit will also address regional political topics topped by the Palestinian case and ties with Iran amid its nuclear program dispute as well as security and military aspects topped by the common GCC currency, labor and market, custom union and railroads, al-Attiyah said.
