240 insolvent prisoners released by president Saleh’s initiative
SANA’A, Nov 20 (Saba) – The Public Prosecution freed on Sunday 240 prisoners who were unable to pay debts or financial fines, a prosecution sourcesaid.
The sources said the move was part of an initiative by President Ali Abdullah Saleh who ordered the government in the holy month of
Ramadan to pay forthose insolvent prisoners.
The prisoners were set free after their debts, totaled YR 37.1 million, were settled from state funds, said the sources
Some 1382 prisoners were released during Ramadan, most of the them spent 75 per cent of their imprisonment punishment and showed good
behavior during their terms, the sources added.
